Description
What is Bintochan active charcoal?
Bintochan is a responsibly sourced wood, which is then charred in a kiln on a low temperature for a long time. Near the end of this process the kiln is fired up to about 1000 degrees and then the charcoal is covered in a mix of earth, sand and ash to cool it. The rapid heating and then rapid cooling incinerates the bark and leaves a smooth hard surface.
Bintochan charcoal has an incredibly porous surface with tiny cavities oriented in many directions. It is known as an active charcoal as the ions of contaminants are attracted to the surface of the carbon where they will be held. It is also able to release minerals such as calcium, iron and magnesium back into the water which enhances its taste and health benefits.
