Marine Based Products – what are they and why are they the hot new thing?

Let’s face it – we all need to look after ourselves a bit better. With working hard, parenting hard, partying hard… whatever it is that you do we all push ourselves. So, what is the solution? Well, marine based products could be the answer. But what are they and why are they so good?

Seaweed, Algae, Sea-Salt and Sea Sponges

Seaweed and Marine algae is naturally abundant in the wild (seaweed is one of the densest crops on Earth) and are rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids. Algae is not as potent as seaweed but benefits from soothing, regenerating and barrier repair elements, which is what make is a favourite for cosmetic companies in anti-aging products.

A 2 More Heads favourite, Haeckels, became what it is today from a bid to clean up the Margate coast. The vast swathes of seaweed on the beach was an eyesore (and a nose sore) and the Haeckels team carefully harvested it (once they had obtained a licence) and turned it into a natural and luxurious product.

So what are the benefits?

  • Seaweed’s detoxifying benefits have long been recognised in countries all over the world. It also has diuretic properties, perfect for smoothing cellulite.
  • Ingesting seaweed helps to boost immunity, improve circulation, detoxification, and a regulation of natural hormones.
  • Algae is packed with humectants that draw in moisture at a greater rate than other natural ingredients, as well as containing Vitamin E which is well known for it’s moisturising properties.
  • Vitamin B and C combat pigmentation, stimulates collage and brightens lacklustre skin. They are both powerful anti-aging ingredients.
  • Omega, Zinc and Magnesium all contribute to a healthier epidermal barrier, protecting from environmental aggressors and soothing any current inflammation.
  • Amino acids are the building blocks of cells, which maintain and fill cells membranes, simultaneously creating a plump, youthful face while preventing any accelerated aging.
  • Sea Salt has long used as an abrasive exfoliant and detoxifying ingredient, sea salt contains magnesium and calcium – both of which help to draw hydration and strengthen barrier function.
  • Salt water will heal your wounds.
  • Natural sea sponges are prevalent in the sea. They are known for their regenerating abilities and natural antibacterial properties.
  • All products are eco-friendly – conscious harvesting leads to regeneration. They are all bio-degradable. If you look after your natural sea sponge it can last for up to 6 years…. Which means less waste. If you use seaweed in your bath, you can then put it in your garden to replenish the earth.
